Oil on the road

It was pouring rain when my wife and I took off with my bike.

We were riding on a straight road that normally has only little traffic when a crossing where we wanted to turn was closing. Then while softly hitting the brake the front tyre simply sled away beneath us without notice. The bike sled towards a ditch and we were sliding down the road until we finally stopped. After we had a little time to recover from the fright we were checking our suits and noticed the damages (or actually the lack of them).

On our lane the road was oily and slippery. Because there was no bitumen, drain covers or driving tracks, those can be closed out as possible reasons for falling. When looking more closely we noticed that the WHOLE road was oily!!! However, it was not the kind of oil and petrol mixture that reflects all the colours of the rainbow but something more an olive oil type of liquid instead! Then I remembered that I had read an article about farmers using biologically disposable oil in their tractors in order to avoid poisoning their fields if accident happens. Well, in this case the farmer had meant good for the nature and shared it generously…?

We were investigating the matter actually only because we did not get any serious injuries.

I strained my finger on the gear sifter, the handle bar left an impressive bruise on my thigh and my knee got a little bit blue but that is all. My wife did not get even a single bruise!!!

We were both wearing APR3/Amazon suits.

My suit had noticeable abrasion marks but it was not torn up at any part. All the protectors stayed on their place and fulfilled their purpose extremely well.

Falling speed was about 40-50 km/h and we sled about 20-25m.

It is not exaggeration to say that thanks to Rukka we were back on my “a bit reshaped bike”  already 10 minutes later and riding on with shivering knees.
